A fire in the sky
A fire in the hole
Halfway above
And Halfway below
I climbed the hill to see the sights
My shoes were tight
The heat felt right
The air was thick
The light was bright
The sky was white
The shadows slight
I crossed my heart
I stretched my arms
The gusting air blew here and there
I smiled at a passing crow
Then with a leap I just let go
The clouds a-swirl in my sight
The light refracting in my eyes
Hot rushing blood ran through my veins
The roar of wind, a passing plane
The air grew cool
The wind was fast
My fear of flying in the past
The ground was low
The sky was wide
The view was clear
Nowhere to hide
My will took hold
My spirits rose
No longer tethered to the soil
Ever up and ever on
The land and sea mere after thought
Above the clouds
Into the blue
The sky now tinged with purple hues
The sun was large
And filled my eyes
It warmed my face, it warmed my heart
A stillness in the atmosphere
A distant buzzing in my ears
No room for hate, no room for fear
The moment chaste
The moment pure
Beyond the bounds of human flight
The moment past
The melted wax
My caution cast into the wind
Drifts idly by then out of view
My upward motion at its crest
I’ve reached the heights now back again
The time to hesitate has gone
The pace grows fast
The wind is strong
Slowly sinking towards my fate
I feel myself accelerate
The ground grows large
The light goes dim
I’m tossed and turned by swirling whim
In the chaos of my fall
I smile and recall it all
The purity
The hope, the joy
The light, the hue
The warmth, the calm
