A letter from the Easter Bunny (for age 20)

Hello Dearest,

It’s me, the Easter Bunny! Wishing you the best tidings of this most wondrous of holiday seasons. I mean, I don’t mean to toot my own horn but come on, it’s Easter time! Could a Sunday get any better than this? No way! Yeah, I know Christmas has a lot of flash, but that Santa has no sense of art. Hello, the gifts are under the tree…again! Please.

A letter from the Easter Bunny (for age 22)

Hey Kiddo,

It’s me, the Easter Bunny! I’ve left you some goodies but how boring would it be to just leave them on the table? Really boring! So instead I’ve hidden them where they’ll never be found. Perhaps future archeologists will one day find them in the ancient rubble of a bygone age, but no one living could ever find them, even if they spent their whole life looking! That’s one thing about me, the Easter Bunny, I’m really good at hiding stuff. Yep, can’t be found.

A Ship in the Night and a Terrible Slight

Isabelle Collins adjusted her skirt
Out on the town and ready to flirt
Putting the days of her work week to rest
She hoped that tonight would be one of her best

“I’ll dance and I’ll play and they’ll buy me some booze
Then on the next day through the morning I’ll snooze
Life’s fun and I’m happy and carefree and gay
And I see no good reason it can’t be that way”

A Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike

I worry about love
I worry about death
I worry about what I’ll say
Dreading the night
Dreading the sun
Dreading the deep cryptic shades
I fear your eyes
I fear your touch
I fear your cold lack of respect
But I’m reaching out
But I’m seeking within
But I’m lost in a circular maze
Where’s tenderness?
Where’s fun and games?
Where’s gone all the promise of youth?
They tell me to wait
They tell me to dream
Oh, they tell me to stay in my place
You never listen
You do not see me
You expect that I’ll keep my routine
I feel your smiles
I feel your looks
I feel your judgments keenly
Yet I’m spying you too
Yet I’m not really here
Yet I know that you’ve made a mistake
For I’m better than that
For I am coming back
For I’m stronger then you’ll ever know
And I’m sharing my heart
And I’m baring my soul
And I’m travelling venturesome roads

Going Somewhere

Write what you know and say what you mean
If you’re going somewhere it will be where you’ve been
If you’re going nowhere you may run the risk
Of laborious structure and dull vocab lists
There’s lucky in love and the luck of the draw
But your words are your words and there’s no luck involved
Some speak in rhyme and some speak in prose
But the best of the speakers simply let their minds flow

Psalm of Secrecy

I was born from secrecy, into secrecy
I am in love with him but also so afraid
I love trying things on for him, letting him pick what I wear
I feel beautiful with him, and safe and happy
Above almost all I hate when I yearn for the past
“Death becomes you, motherfucker.” The worst thing I think I’ve ever said

Tell Me Something

Tell me something that hurts me
Tell me something that bites to the core
Tell me something that cuts me
Admit you think me a whore

I want you to know me
I want you to see to my soul
I want you to hit me
Let your love take its toll

Take my mind, make it submit
Take my heart in your teeth
Take my body and beat it
Uproot my core from beneath

Shake my power with your passion
Shake my faith in your gaze
Shake my poise without compassion
Leave me bound in a daze

Make me tell you I love you
Make me want to behave
Make me take what I have to
Make me quake like your slave

A Civilized Man

Fingertips roaming the warmth of your skin
Yearning to hold and to own and to feed
Lust sways my focus from order to sin
Mind filled with ego and flush with fresh greed
Drove to distraction my thoughts running free
Striking your flesh while you let loose sharp cries
Blind with your fear and unable to flee
I want to force you with tears in your eyes
Closing the door on this dark fevered thought
Foregoing my urges, actions benign
My passion yet building, inner war fought
Feathery kisses along your jaw line
A soft loving touch of pure devotion
An intensity of raw emotion

Across the Void

Across the void he heard her cries
And summoned thus traversed dark skies
“What a day! Oh, take me away!”
She’d called into the gloaming grey
Now he’d arrived with laughing eyes

He coo’d of love and other highs
Of soft caress and parting thighs
His gentle cadence sweet foreplay
Across the void

He used his words to mesmerize
And tender strokes and gentle sighs
“For just awhile I’ll let him stay
What harm could there be in such play?
How could his soft words be unwise?”
Across the void

“Echoes of a Bygone Age”

Nowadays rhyming poems are old fashioned and played
Remnants of a bygone day
Great passion therein may have lie
True beauty, deep sadness, poignant love
Gnawing fear, righteous anger, creeping horror
All encompassing joy, all embracing connection and self obliterating awakening made manifest
But now poems of this nature have inevitably declined into the banal and the trite
The insipid and the syrupy
The tacky and the treacled
What can they say to us now that we haven’t already heard a thousand times before?
